Growers Supply Company Limited began to serve local growers on May 31st, 1937 with feed, spray, fertilizer, flour and orchard supplies. The first storefront and warehouse was located in downtown Kelowna on the corner of Ellis Street and Haynes Avenue. This building and Haynes Avenue no longer exist.
After a devastating packinghouse fire in the early 1960’s, Growers Supply moved to a new building at 421 Cawston Ave. It expanded into a major hardware, farm and garden supply store, and even operated a gas station. These properties were eventually purchased by the City of Kelowna. The store is now known as the Rotary Center of the Arts and the gas station is now part of the parking lot for Prospera Place. By the late 1980’s the company had outgrown the Cawston Avenue location and in 1991 moved to a more industrial location on Acland Road to concentrate on the commercial and wholesale trade. The Acland Road location was one of the first large certified Agrichemical Warehousing Standards Association (AWSA) warehouses in western Canada.
In 1982 Growers Supply took over the operation of the Lake Area Summerland and Penticton Co-Op’s spray sheds, and by 1989 the operations had been combined together at the Penticton Co-op location on Dawson Ave. In 2001, to expand the product selection in Penticton, the company purchased a larger facility on Okanagan Avenue East. Growers Supply moved in 2015 to a brand new store build on 108-272 Dawson Ave, Penticton.
The Okanagan Tree Fruit Cooperative (OTFC) was created in 2005 with the BC Fruit Packers (BCFP) and OK North Cooperatives joining forces. The following year Sunfresh Cooperative joined the OTFC; by 2008 the Okanagan Similkameen Cooperative (OSC) had joined the OTFC. It was quickly determined that the packinghouse spray sheds would need to be moved away from production, but rather than create a new South Okanagan location, negotiations with TerraLink in 2009 resulted in Growers Supply purchasing their South Valley Sales Division. This purchase resulted in the South Valley Sales Oliver and Keremeos outlets’ taking over the responsibilities of the three packinghouse spray sheds in their respective locations. In 2016, Growers Supply moved to a freashly built store on the other side of the property in Keremeos.
2011 brought the expansion of the Vernon operations and the closure of the Winfield location and in 2016, a new store front and receiving area was added.
2016 brought tremendous growth and change to Growers Supply including an updated logo and the development of a corporate head office located at 3335 Sexsmith Rd. Kelowna.
